Period poverty is a lack of access to menstrual products, sanitation facilities, and proper education on menstruation. It affects approximately 500 million women and girls worldwide, impacting their health, dignity, and rights(1). In the United States,11 million women and girls suffer from period poverty, including 1 in 7 in Illinois who live below the poverty line and cannot afford basic menstrual products(2).This leads to missed school, work, and health risks.
ZAMZAM Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Illinois-based nonprofit, is committed to ending period poverty through its Period Poverty Project, an initiative that ensures every woman and girl has access to safe, clean, eco-friendly menstrual hygiene.
$100 supports 1 menstruator for 1 year, $300 supports 3, $1,000 supports 10
